Music (A.F.A.)

The Tennessee Board of Regents community colleges and the state’s locally governed institutions have joined together to develop a common core of courses for the Associate of Fine Arts (A.F.A.) degree. This common curriculum allows students to transfer, without loss of credit, from Pellissippi State to any Tennessee public university music program as juniors, pending successful auditions, performance reviews, etc.
Upon completion of the Associate of Fine Arts transfer program, the graduate will have developed the skills, knowledge and abilities to accomplish the following:
- Demonstrate knowledge and/or skills acquired within the general education core.
- Locate and evaluate information from a range of credible sources using proper attribution and citation.
- Solve problems using skills developed across the curriculum.
- Demonstrate key skills which apply to specific artistic experiences in music, theatre, and/or visual art.
- Demonstrate knowledge of key terms and/or concepts as applied to specific artistic experiences in music, theatre, and/or visual art.
- Generate and communicate a variety of imaginative and meaningful ideas.

Courses and Course Sequence
This sequence can be followed by students who begin college-level work in the fall semester. Prerequisites may apply to specific courses; it is the student's responsibility to determine if prerequisites have been met. An academic advisor is provided for each student. Prior to registering each semester, the student is expected to consult with his/her assigned advisor. All AFA Music students must participate in a music exit interview at the conclusion of their final semester to fulfill graduation requirements.

* Students will complete the remaining 6 hours of the humanities requirement, including one course in literature at the intended university upon transfer. Students must successfully complete placement requirements in music theory, ear training, and piano at the university where transfer is planned. Students must also successfully complete required university auditions as appropriate.
