Healthcare Management, A.A.S.

Program description. Healthcare Management program is designed to train individuals for careers in healthcare administration and management in a healthcare organization.  The program includes courses that provide the student with business skills as well as ethical, theoretical, and practical issues related to healthcare settings.

All students must take the Brainbench examination in order to fulfill graduation requirements; Brainbench awards certification to students with a passing score.

Typical job opportunities: Billing specialist, client benefits specialist, compliance specialist, healthcare ambassador, healthcare human resource assistant, insurance claim specialist, medical administrative assistant, medical billing and coding, medical executive assistant, medical office coordinator, medical support assistant, patient registration specialist. 

Program outcomes. Upon completion of the Healthcare Management, A.A.S. program, the graduate will have developed the skills, knowledge and abilities to accomplish the following:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting medical office technologies.
  2. Identify various types of healthcare delivery systems and items unique to each.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of medical reimbursement practices and how to conduct a chart audit for both quality review and billing practices.
  4. Apply critical thinking skills to real world strategies in the healthcare industry.
  5. Apply knowledge of emerging technology trends.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of computer application programs.

Courses and Course Sequence


This sequence can be followed by students who begin college-level work in the fall semester. Prerequisites may apply to specific courses; it is the student’s responsibility to determine if prerequisites have been met. An academic advisor is provided for each student. Prior to registering each semester, the student is expected to consult with his/her assigned advisor.

To enroll in this Internship course, students must be in pursuit of an A.A.S. degree in Healthcare Management; have completed 15 hours of HCMT courses with a minimum 2.5 GPA in HCMT courses and an overall minimum 2.0 GPA; be enrolled in the semester in which the student will graduate; have completed and submitted the Internship application to the BCT internship coordinator prior to enrollment in the course and beginning of the term.
