Mechanical Engineering Technology (A.A.S.)

Program description. The traditional Mechanical Engineering Technology program offers students a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills related to mechanical component and system design. Areas of emphasis include materials, material testing, machine shop practices, manufacturing processes, fluid mechanics with power applications, applied mechanics, electrical fundamentals, and computer-aided drafting and design. In addition, courses place emphasis on safety, teamwork, communications skills and efficient work practices.

Typical job opportunities: Mechanical engineering technician, engineering assistant, mechanical designer, plant engineering technician, project management assistant, engineering materials lab technician and technical sales

Program outcomes. Upon completion of the Mechanical Engineering Technology program, the graduate will have developed the skills, knowledge and abilities to accomplish the following:

  I. Demonstrate safe and proficient use of equipment related to Mechanical Engineering Technology.
 II. Identify and present effective solutions to technical problems within the Mechanical Engineering Technology field.
III. Demonstrate competency with computer applications common to modern industry.
IV. Communicate effectively using technical writing and oral presentations.
 V. Demonstrate the ability to work in a team-based environment.

Courses and Course Sequence


This sequence can be followed by students who begin college-level work in the fall semester. Prerequisites may apply to specific courses; it is the student’s responsibility to determine if prerequisites have been met. An academic advisor is provided for each student. Prior to registering each semester, the student is expected to consult with his/her assigned advisor.

1MATH
Students transferring to a 4-year institution must take MATH 1730  (or complete both MATH 1710  and MATH 1720 ) and PHYS 2010  to meet transfer requirements. Enrollment in MATH 1710  requires completion of high school algebra I and algebra II and ACT math score of at least 22, or MATH 1030 . Enrollment in MATH 1720  requires completion of MATH 1710  or consent of mathematics department. Enrollment in MATH 1730  requires completion of high school algebra I and algebra II and precalculus/trigonometry and ACT math score of at least 23, or MATH 1030

Elective to be chosen from ENST 1312  or ENST 2341 .  
4PHYS
Students transferring to a 4-year institution must take PHYS 2010  to meet transfer requirements. Students not transferring to a 4-year institution may take ENST 1352 . Enrollment in PHYS 2010  requires completion of MATH 1710  and MATH 1720  with a grade of C or better, or MATH 1730  with a grade of C or better.
