Radiologic Technology (A.A.S.)

Degree: Pending SACSCOC Approval – Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology (A.A.S.)

Accreditation. Pending approval: Joint Review Committee in Education for Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) 20N Wacker Drive Suite 2850 Chicago, IL 60606-3182.

Program Description.  The Radiologic Technology program is designed to prepare competent, certified radiographers to help meet entry-level needs of the health care community. Graduates will be eligible to take the certification examination by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. The program will be accredited by the Joint Review Committee in Education for Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

Program outcomes. Upon completion of the Radiologic Technology program, the graduate will have developed the skills, knowledge and abilities to accomplish the following:

  1. Demonstrate clinical competence with the application of technical radiologic knowledge, radiation protection precautions and the practice of safe practice safe patient care. 
  2. Demonstrate critical thinking with the evaluation radiographic images for quality and the revision of radiographic exams based on patient assessment.
  3. Demonstrate effective communication with the practice of communication skills and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team when in the professional environment.

Students who complete the program and successfully pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination will be able to work as a Radiologic Technologist (Radiographers) in hospitals, medical clinics and physicians’ offices.
 

Courses and Course Sequence


It is required that students complete BIOL 2010 BIOL 2020 HCMT 1010 ,  MATH 1530 , and RADT 1200  before beginning the Radiologic Technology program. Prerequisites may apply to specific courses; it is the student’s responsibility to determine whether prerequisites have been met. All students must have a C or better in required math and science prerequisite courses. Prior to registering each semester, the student is expected to consult with a Health Science advisor.
